Our popular Hammerandtongs road bike is marking its 10th birthday with some striking new aero updates. Pearson bike designer Scott Decker explains how we’ve improved on a classic.  

The design brief for the H&T hasn’t changed since its inception nearly 10 years ago. Our main focus has always been to strike the fine balance between comfort and speed, without compromise.

For this latest incarnation, Mk.6, we’ve enhanced our trusted geometry to provide quick and nimble handling, whilst maintaining comfort for longer days in the saddle. The frames have been designed in conjunction with our in-house bike fit data, with carefully calculated dimensions to cater for female and male cyclists of all sizes, shapes and flexibility.

This ensures each rider can be individually fitted and dialled into the perfect position. The aim is to guarantee a super comfortable ride, whilst still allowing you to throw down the hammer.

To make this the fastest version yet, we have pored over the finer details and employed new technology and standards across the board. Working closely with our engineers, the frameset has incorporated proven aero profiles, from the fork through to the seat tube, improving airflow and reducing drag.

We always use the finest Japanese Toray high-modulus carbon in our frames and have perfected the layup to blend vibration damping and stiffness in the right places, resulting in a nimble 900g frame to make light work of the climbs.

The cables now run fully internally, right from the aero bars to the chainstays, keeping them out of the wind and harm’s way. We’ve also raised the seat stays to seamlessly integrate into the top of the seat tube.

This allows more flex to compensate for a stiffer aero seat tube and post. We’ve borrowed design DNA from our fully aero race machine, Minegoestoeleven, to lend the all-important cut-out in the seat tube – this improves aerodynamics, whilst also allowing for extra clearance for up to 700x32 tyres.

All this means nothing if it doesn’t look the part. We have two colour options in matt black with gloss black panels, and gloss blue on black, plus various build options to suit your taste and budget. Prices start from £3300 and each bike is built to customer specification.
